Assessment and Reporting 2021-22

All students are set a Minimum Expected grade for each subject when they join Wingfield Academy. This grade is based on their KS2 data and our own internal data. We often move minimum expected grades up as students are with us and making progress, so they can change.

The minimum expected grade is the very minimum we would expect your child to achieve in their GCSEs at the end of Y11.

Attitude to Learning (ATL)

Attitude towards learning is vitally important in a child’s success at school. We assess attitude to learning against the following descriptors;

1 = Has an Excellent attitude to learning.

They are working as hard as they can, both in every lesson and in all ILT activities. They strive for excellence in everything they do.
Classwork and ILT are always completed to the highest standard, demonstrating excellent effort and resilience in all activities.
They are always on time, fully equipped and prepared to learn.
They show high levels of motivation and enthusiasm in learning and maximise every opportunity on offer to further their progress.

2 = They are Coasting.

They are working hard in lessons and in all ILT, but they are not consistently striving for excellence.
Classwork and ILT are always completed to a pleasing standard, demonstrating effort and resilience in activities, but they can demonstrate some passivity in learning.
They are on always on time, fully equipped and prepared to learn.
They show inconsistent levels of motivation, interest and enthusiasm in learning and miss some opportunities to maximise their progress, they are doing ‘just enough’, rather than consistently striving for excellence, putting them at risk of underachievement.

3 = Their attitude to learning Requires Improvement.

They are capable of working hard in lesson and in all ILT, but this is inconsistent and shows some apathy towards their work. They sometime cause disruption to learning by getting a C1.
They are not always on time, fully equipped or prepared to learn.
They show a lack of motivation and enthusiasm in learning and regularly missing opportunities to maximise their progress, often demonstrating passivity which is leading to a significant risk of underachievement.

4 = Has a Poor attitude to learning.

They are capable of working hard in lesson and in all ILT, but this is rarely seen and they can often cause disruption to learning.
Classwork and ILT is rarely completed to a good standard.
They are often late, not fully equipped and prepared to learn.
They consistently show a lack of motivation and interest in learning, leading to a significant risk of underachievement.

We generate a rank order for ever students and share this with you, it is a great indicator about how hard they are working compared to the rest of the year group and the aim is that everyone would be number 1 – everyone can be number 1 and that has to be the aim of every student.

In subjects, we break down ATL scores into the following categories to help students and parents know where they are doing well and where they need to focus their attention more;

Attitude towards and quality of classwork,
Attitude towards and quality of ILT,
Being equipped and ready to learn,
Participation in lesson

KS3

At KS3, we expect a formal piece of assessment to happen every half term and these are shared and feedback on in lessons.

Twice per academic year, we collect data for KS3 and this will reflect whether students are:

Y7 Developing, Secure or Exceeding
Y8 Developing, Secure or Exceeding

Y9 Developing, Secure or Exceeding

It will also include their overall Attitude to Learning rank and Attitude to Learning grades for each subject.

There will be appropriate criteria in each subject area to assess against and the criteria will be different for each minimum expected grade.

We will share a report with you following each progress update and you will also have a parents evening.

Ever year group will have a set of formal exams (PPEs) and these are detailed below too.

KS4

In Y10 and Y11, we collect data 3 times per year. We will report to you in grades and you will receive 3 pieces of information;

Most Likely Grade (MLG), based on how students are currently performing in class, ILT and assessments is the grade the teacher thinks will be their most likely outcome in their final GCSE exams
Current Working Grade (CWG), this is the grade that they are currently performing at in assessments
Attitude to Learning rank and Attitude to Learning grades for each subject.
